What Happens When Your Tray Fills Up

A full tray with no available match ends the level. The fix is almost always in the taps you made three moves earlier.

The tray is the heart of the puzzle. Every car you tap takes a slot and keeps it until two more cars of the same colour join it. When every slot is occupied and no three of them match, there are no legal moves left and the level ends.

Why the tray fills

  • Orphan colours. Tapping one car of a colour whose other cars are buried leaves a slot locked up for a long time.
  • Too many colours at once. Four different colours sitting in the tray as singles is usually the point of no return.
  • Clearing for the sake of it. Tapping the easiest car rather than the useful one fills slots without progressing the board.

How to keep slots free

  1. Count before you tap

Scan the board for how many cars of a colour are actually reachable. If you cannot see three, do not start the set.

  2. Finish what you started

A colour already sitting in your tray as a pair is your best next move — it gives a slot back immediately.

  3. Dig with intent

When you must uncover buried cars, uncover towards a colour you already hold rather than clearing at random.

TipIf the tray is already tight, a power-up that pulls a car back out of the tray or shuffles the board can buy you the slot you need. See power-ups and boosters.

Frequently asked questions

Can I undo a tap?

Some power-ups can return cars from the tray to the board. Without one, a tap is final for that level — but you can always restart the level and try a different order.

Do I lose progress when a level ends?

No. Levels you have already cleared stay cleared. Only the current attempt ends.
