How to play Getaway Garage
The garage floor is a grid of parking bays holding a handful of getaway vehicles. There is only one control: a direction. Swipe the board, press an arrow key (or WASD), or tap the arrow pad — every vehicle on the floor shoves that way at the same time and keeps going until something stops it: the wall, a barrier, or another vehicle.
Nothing merges on contact. Matches happen only after the slide settles: any horizontal or vertical run of three or more identical vehicles drives off the board, all runs at once. Then the board stops — cleared vehicles leave holes and nothing falls in to fill them. Your next swipe starts from exactly that layout.
Clear every vehicle before your swipes run out and the level is done. Run out with cars still parked and you can retry as many times as you like — every level in the game has been machine-checked to be winnable inside its limit, so there is always a line that works.
Tips
- Push into a corner first. Two swipes at right angles (up then left, say) pile everything into one quarter of the floor. That is where lines of three come from — a scattered board almost never matches.
- Barriers are lane markers, not just walls. A 🚧 stops the vehicles behind it and lets the rest keep travelling, so a barrier is the only way to split one row into two separate stacks. Most of the harder levels are solved by using one.
- Count before you clear. On levels with six of one kind, a run of four wipes out four, leaving two that can never match again. If you can see that coming, take a different direction first and break the run up.
- Gaps are the point. Because the board never re-settles, a cleared run leaves a hole that vehicles will slide straight through next time. Look at where the hole is before you decide which way to go.
- A blocked swipe is free. If everything is already flat against that wall, the board just nudges and no swipe is spent — so it costs nothing to test which directions actually do something.
- Restart early. The move limit is tight by design on later levels. If the first three swipes have not cleared anything, a fresh start is usually faster than trying to rescue it.
Getaway Garage FAQ
Is Getaway Garage free to play?
Yes. Getaway Garage is completely free to play in your browser — there is no download, no install and no signup. Open the page and start swiping.
How do the slides work?
Every swipe moves the whole garage at once. Each vehicle travels in the direction you swiped until it hits a wall, a barrier or another vehicle, then stops. Nothing merges on contact, so a swipe is about where things end up, not what they touch on the way.
Why did four vehicles clear at once?
A run clears in full. Three identical vehicles in a row or column is the minimum, but if your slide lines up four or five they all drive off together. That can be a problem: with only three of a kind left on the board, over-clearing is impossible, but on levels that give you six of a kind a greedy four-clear can leave two behind that can never make a run again. Watch for it.
Does the board settle again after a clear?
No, and that is the whole puzzle. Vehicles stay exactly where they stopped when a run drives off, leaving gaps behind. The next swipe starts from that layout, so the gaps you create are the lanes you will use later.
Does my progress save?
Yes. Your highest unlocked level and your best swipe count on every level are stored in your browser, so you can close the tab and pick up where you left off. Progress is per browser and per device — it is not tied to an account, so clearing your browser data will reset it.
Does Getaway Garage work on phones?
Yes. Getaway Garage runs in any modern browser on phones, tablets and desktops. Swipe the board on a touchscreen, use the arrow keys or WASD on a keyboard, or tap the on-screen arrow pad — all three do the same thing.
