Bath Time
Magpie has blocked the pipes and Sir Wagsworth is sat in a dry tub. Dig the water a way down to him. 30 levels, free in your browser.
Drag to dig · fill the tub · wash over the ducks for stars · tap a bomb to blow it · R restarts
How to play Bath Time
Each level is a slice of ground under the city. Somewhere near the top there is a pocket of clean water; at the bottom, a bathtub with a dog in it. Drag through the dirt to dig, and the water goes wherever you have left room for it. Grey rock does not dig, so the job is usually finding a way round it.
The meter above the level shows how full the tub is. Fill it and the level is done. The level is lost once the water that is left can no longer fill it: either too much has poured off the bottom of the screen, or the rest has settled somewhere it cannot get to the tub from, such as a pocket sealed in rock or behind a door whose lever it can no longer reach. Dirt only helps while the water can still run downhill through it. The restart button (or R) is quick on purpose.
Three rubber ducks sit in the dirt on every level. Water that washes over a duck fills it, and each full duck is a star. The tub only needs the water to arrive; the ducks need it to take the scenic route.
Later levels add more to manage: purple poison, green ooze, red-hot heaters that turn water to steam, levers that open iron grates, pipes and bombs. They arrive a few at a time, and each level opens with a one-line tip.
Tips
- Water finds its own level. It always runs downhill and spreads out flat when it stops. A channel that rises anywhere along its length will hold water back at that point until the pool behind it is deep enough to spill over.
- Dig from the bottom of a pool, not the top. A cut through the floor of a pocket drains all of it. A cut through the side only drains what is above the cut, and the rest stays there for good.
- Route past the ducks. Ducks fill when water flows over them, not when it passes nearby. Dig the channel straight through each one, and dig the bit below it too, or the water will stop at the duck instead of carrying on.
- Poison spreads, ooze eats. Poison turns clean water it touches into more poison, so keep them apart until the clean water is safely in the tub. Ooze eats through dirt on its own and cancels water out, so it can be a digger or a nuisance depending on where you let it go.
- Steam comes back down. Water on a heater turns to steam and rises. It only turns back into water under a flat ceiling: a sloping roof just steers it up to the highest point of the roof. A flat stretch of ceiling in the right place gets you most of it back. Steam that never finds one is lost.
Bath Time FAQ
Is Bath Time free to play?
Yes. Bath Time is free in your browser with no download, no install and no signup. Open the page and start digging.
How do I play Bath Time?
Water sits in pockets underground and the bathtub is at the bottom of the screen. Drag your finger or mouse through the brown dirt to dig a path, and the water flows wherever you leave room for it. The level is cleared when the meter at the top is full, which means enough water has reached the tub.
How do stars work?
Each level has three rubber ducks buried in the dirt. Water that flows over a duck fills it, and every full duck is a star. Filling the tub is enough to clear the level and unlock the next one, so you can come back for the ducks later.
Why did I lose when the water was nearly there?
One of three things. Too much water was lost on the way, so there was no longer enough left to fill the tub. Or the water that was left settled where it could never reach the tub, for example below a lever it was meant to wet, so the door it opens stays shut for good. Dirt only helps while the water can still run downhill through it, so a puddle sitting below everything it needed to reach is done, dirt or no dirt. Or something that is not water reached the tub. Water that runs off the bottom of the screen is gone for good, and so is water that turns to steam on a heater and never comes back down. Poison and ooze in the tub end the level at once.
What do the purple and green liquids do?
The purple one is poison. It turns any clean water it touches into more poison and makes a duck sick, so it no longer counts as a star. The green one is ooze. It eats through dirt on its own, cancels out water when the two meet, and pops any duck it reaches. Neither may go in the tub.
What are the levers, pipes and bombs for?
A lever opens an iron grate somewhere else in the level when water runs over it. Some flip the grate each time; others hold it open only while water is on them. Pipes carry whatever falls into their mouth out of the other end. Bombs clear a round hole in the dirt when you tap them, and ooze can set them off too.
Is every level possible?
Yes. Before release, a script replays a solution for each of the 30 levels using the same water simulation as the game, and checks that it fills the tub and all three ducks.
Does my progress save?
Yes. Unlocked levels and your best stars are stored in your browser, so you can close the tab and carry on later. Progress is per browser and per device, so clearing your browser data resets it.
Does Bath Time work on phones?
Yes. It runs in modern browsers on phones, tablets and desktops, and the whole level fits on a portrait phone screen, so you can dig with one thumb. On a computer, R restarts the level.
Is there a mobile app?
Bath Time itself is a browser game. It comes from Brightpoint Studios, the makers of Match Heist, our 3D car match puzzle for iOS and Android, which has the same crew and a lot more levels.
